Kelly Warren Photo Art

My friend and fellow jewelry designer Kelly Warren of Happy Shack Designs has recently tried her hand at photography and done quite well I might add. Kelly is frequently posting photos of her twin girls on her blog and they are always wonderful. On a recent trip to Tallahassee, Florida (she's a FSU grad and die-hard 'Nole) Kelly came across a graveyard of old cars and photographed them. She was able, through research, to find out the history behind them and their owner. I couldn't wait to make an Etsy sale so that I could head over to Kelly's new shop and purchase some of these photos for myself. I got my new prints in the mail last week and they are spectacular! Go check out Kelly's new shop for yourself. I'm sure you'll find something you can't live without.

Bead Porn!

We went out of town yesterday to visit my in-laws and as any bead addict knows you can't go to a new town without finding out if there's a bead shop in the area. So there was and this is what I got. I'm a bit addicted to these Picasso beads lately. The matte green squares at the top go perfectly with my new barnacle pendant (see above) from my friend Leann at SummersStudioEtc. Have a great day!

Update: Beading Mag Submissions

Well, I got my 3 magazine submissions ready and was headed to the post office with them on Monday. Upon double-checking my email for the magazine's mailing address, I found myself in shock & awe! The deadline to have my work in WAS MONDAY the 13th, not the 15th as I had had in my mind for weeks now!!! OMG, Can anyone say "utter disappointment?" I could not believe that I had gotten the dates wrong. I wasn't willing to give up at this point, so I called the mag's managing editor and asked if I could overnight my submissions to them. She called me back the next day, and I'm SO glad she did! She asked if I could have them there by Friday at the latest and I, of course, said YES, I'll overnight them to you! I thanked her for the opportunity and vowed to myself to NEVER leave something to the last minute again. Thank you God for favor with these folks...

Brave People Make Things so get excited and make things….

The first five (5) people to respond to this post will get something made by me.

This offer does have some restrictions and limitations so please read carefully:
1. I make no guarantees that you will like what I make. Whatcha get is whatcha get.
2. What I create will be just for you, with love.
3. It’ll be done this year (2009).
4. I will not give you any clue what it’s going to be. It will be something made in the real world and not something cyber. It may be weird or beautiful. Or it may be monstrous and annoying. Heck, I might bake something for you and mail it to you. Who knows? Not you, that’s for sure!
5. I reserve the right to do something strange.
6. In return, all you need to do is post this text on your blog and make 5 things for the first 5 to respond to your blog post.
7. Send your mailing address - after I contact you.

My babies!

Yes, I know! I've been MIA again. This past week has been one of breathing treatments and doctors appointments. Since starting school last fall, my oldest son has developed chronic nasal and chest congestion. He's to the point now that he's doing 2 breathing treatments a day and is headed for a sinus CT this Friday and then off to a pediatric allergist soon after. I could not be more frustrated as a mother!!! I can't find a way to help him and I'm at my wit's end. In between these tasks I'm working on my magazine submissions. Once again, I'm dragging my feet and waiting until the 12th hour to get them ready for shipping. It's a ton of work writing about "how" something was made. When I'm sitting there making each piece I sure don't think about it, it's just second nature. Anyway, I will get them done and I will have them in the mail on time. Have a great day!

Beading Magazine Submissions

Hi all! I'm hard at work getting directions, materials lists, personal bio and photos ready for my 3 submissions to a national beading magazine. I emailed photos to them last week and got a very quick, very interested response from them. I'm so excited! I've been putting this off for years and finally figured out that it was the right time to go for it. It's alot of work prepping things for submission, but will be well worth the effort. As the time gets closer I'll disclose what magazine and when you'll be able to see my work in it!

Quote of the day...

Here is a quote that I ran across the other day in a gift shop. It really hit home with me and I wanted to share it with you.

"When I stand before God at the end of my life, I would hope that I would not have a single bit of talent left, and could say, "I used everything you gave me". Erma Bombeck
